Lucho Campillo was born in a small town in the Atlantic Coast of Colombia called Colomboy. From an early age he showed a marked musical instinct but his family opposed his desires to become a musician. Nevertheless, at the age of 15 he wrote his first song called "Negra Isabel". By then he was playing a small mouth organ and, unbeknownst to his family, started writing other songs, never saying a word. At the age of 20, when other musicians in his home town started singing his songs, someone mentioned to him that he'd better start saying that those songs were his because other authors are going to start to show up. Lucho's main musical instrument has always been the accordion, which he taught himself to play. From Planeta Rica he went on to the City of Medellin, where he created the group Los Cohaleros de Majagual, touring through Venezuela, Panama, the United States, Mexico, Guatemala and finally returned to Mexico, where he lived for 10 years introducing his Caribbean Folklore, especially the styles of Cumbia and Vallenato. About 600 songs created by Lucho have been recorded by numerous groups in America and South America, as well as his recordings with Lucho Campillo y Los Truenos and Lucho Campillo y La Potencia. Lucho currently lives in the city of Anaheim, California and continues writing and recording songs full of tropical rhythms, Cumbia flavor and picaresque lyrics. |
