Convoy Cubano

What do you get when you combine traditional Cuban son with American-influenced Latin hip hop? The answer, ladies and gentlemen, is Convoy Cubano: a talented Montreal-based Cuban group who have successfully and tastefully experimented with mixing two completely opposite genres of music. This particular fusion of genres might sound absurd to many, but to the open-minded individuals who have been to a Convoy Cubano live show, it is a tropical, heart-warming experience. Montreal's favourite Latin urban duo are joined by DJ Realism and other gifted Cuban musicians including Jesus "El Niño" Alejandro, together producing a sound with an energy flow like no other. They combine traditional Cuban rhythms such as son montuno, guajira, and traditional son with Latin hip hop and reggaeton. A unique mixture of the old and the new, but it's one positive step towards the evolution of Latin urban music. Their originality has brought them a long way in a short period of time. Convoy Cubano has opened up for popular reggaeton artists like Tego Calderon, Nicky Jam and Don Chezina. They are also favourites at the annual Montreal Jazz Fest.
