| Regreso A Casa is naturally a return home. The fourth album by Jesus Alejandro "El Nino" Perez takes us back to another place and time where a "Guajira," more than a style, was an open embrace of the Cuban countryside. The music is lush, melancholic and as mysterious as the people and folklore that inspire the songs.
This collection of gems is mainly comprised of mid-tempo Cuban Son, honoring the land, the life and culture of the Cuban "campesino." The vocal melodies capture the nostalgic and innocent view towards life that makes this record as pure as the tobacco that made this land famous. Confessions of love, mountain girls and the prairie provide the magical subject matter that transcends time and place and makes us forget that ipods, the Internet and smart phones ever existed.
The masterful Jesus Alejandro "El Nino" is a multi-instrumentalist whose Cuban roots give him the palette from which to draw inspiration. Born and raised on the island, he began his musical career at an early age, picking up the guitar, bass, piano and flute. His talent and skill as an arranger/composer have led him to work with artists the caliber of Oscar D'Leon, Hansel and Raul, Roberto Torres, Ricardo Lemvo and many more. His original compositions have also been featured in films and television, among them: The Shield, CSI Miami, CSI New York, The Handler, Taking Lives, Dance With Me and many more. Jesus currently lives in Montreal, Canada. With Regreso A Casa, "El Nino" shows us, once again, the power of his enduring musical heritage even when far away from his homeland. |
