Polvo Norteño
Everything life throws at you is a reason to celebrate; that is what listening to El Polvo Norteño makes you feel. Beauty, sadness, happiness and tragedy are the emotional ingredients in the feast this modern Mexican Norteño group cooks up. In fact, throw the lyrics away and you’d probably miss the fact that they’re singing about their vices, a tragic suicide, the sanctity of matrimony, a dance party and drug smugglers. But there is no sadness here, at least not long enough to halt a good FIESTA. El Polvo Norteño delivers its dishes in various flavors from corridos to rancheras to cumbia, but all seasoned with their own special blend of northern spices.

Años Perdidos
In the oral tradition of storytelling, the Corrido stands as an enduring historical musical form in Mexican culture that has documented the daily lives of countless authors and their subjects. It is precisely this tradition that Jose Luis Lepe imaginatively applies in his debut album, Años Perdidos. In the epic poetic prose that distinguishes the traditional Corrido, Lepe brings to life the characters he’s met along the way and the loves lost and gained, all melded with a ferocious pride for the homeland. The songs are peppered with unforgettable colloquial references such as chicken hawks, wet steel (a .45 caliber pistol), mule carts and many others. All these references share equal parts in the narrative with the Accordion and Bajo Sexto as they fill the empty canvas Lepe has chosen for his stories. The fascinating aspect of Años Perdidos is the nostalgic tone that seeps into every word that Lepe utters—a tone that is perfectly reflected in the album’s title: The Lost Years.

Regreso a Casa
Regreso A Casa is naturally a return home. The fourth album by Jesus Alejandro “El Niño” Perez takes us back to another place and time where a “Guajira,” more than a style, was an open embrace of the Cuban countryside. The music is lush, melancholic and as mysterious as the people and folklore that inspire the songs.
This collection of gems is mainly comprised of mid-tempo Cuban Son, honoring the land, the life and culture of the Cuban “campesino.” The vocal melodies capture the nostalgic and innocent view towards life that makes this record as pure as the tobacco that made this land famous. Confessions of love, mountain girls and the prairie provide the magical subject matter that transcends time and place and makes us forget that ipods, the Internet and smart phones ever existed.
The masterful Jesus Alejandro “El Niño” is a multi-instrumentalist whose Cuban roots give him the palette from which to draw inspiration. Born and raised on the island, he began his musical career at an early age, picking up the guitar, bass, piano and flute. His talent and skill as an arranger/composer have led him to work with artists the caliber of Oscar D’Leon, Hansel and Raul, Roberto Torres, Ricardo Lemvo and many more. His original compositions have also been featured in films and television, among them: The Shield, CSI Miami, CSI New York, The Handler, Taking Lives, Dance With Me and many more. Jesus currently lives in Montreal, Canada. With Regreso A Casa, “El Niño” shows us, once again, the power of his enduring musical heritage even when far away from his homeland.

Chilling
Rey el Vikingo's newest album, "Chilling," is not only innovative, but it's an instant classic. He has managed to craft a fresh new sound while still remaining true to his Cuban roots.
A creation to impress loyal followers and newcomers alike, in this release, Rey el Vikingo has produced a fine mix of upbeat pounders and laidback groove-tracks. The sounds of “Aqui No Hay Reversa” and “Dime Hasta Cuando” are not only pumping and aggressive in nature, but they have been masterfully counterbalanced with pieces including the relaxed vibes of the Cumbia title piece “Chilling,” as well as “Los Hombres No Lloran.”
